Dynamic Couple Focuses on Community Involvement

Dynamic Couple Focuses on Community Involvement
Newcomers Bill Astle and Karen Wiley have lived at their Dove Mountain home for less than a year. Both are retired professors from the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colorado, where they have a long history of volunteerism. One of the organizations they worked with in Colorado was a hunger relief organization-the Jeffco Action Center in nearby Lakewood. So after moving to the Tucson area, they quickly became involved with the Community Food Bank.

Their experience with human services organizations in Colorado left them with a strong understanding of how vital these organizations are to the health of any community. When Bill and Karen became CFB donors they watched and waited to see if their investment in the community was paying off. Apparently it was, as they recently created a Charitable Gift Annuity with the Community Food Bank.

Finding ways to become part of the community was second nature for Bill and Karen. "We had no trouble developing a social network when we moved, but a lot of people do." Now full-time Tucson residents, the couple's thoughts have turned to helping other newcomers get involved with local charities. With their quickly accumulated knowledge of the community, we have no doubt they will succeed. With the help of their planned gift, the Community Food Bank will continue to succeed as well. Thank you, Bill and Karen!
